Night City is the location for Cyberpunk 2077. The city is named after its creator and businessman Richard Night and was created by his corporate construction company Night International. Construction of Night City began in 1993.
The city’s status declined following the death of Richard Night five years after construction began when the Corporations fought with Mob gangs for control of the city. The Mobs took control as the Corporations lost interest in governing and fighting for the city. The mobs eventually lost control of the city during what was dubbed the Mob Wars when they were defeated by paramilitaries.
Corporations decided to take back city control and Night City became a peaceful but fragile place with heavy policing. Although tough times may have passed, the city is still a dangerous and foreboding place to live and work.
City Size
While the exact size of Night City has not been specified, we do know that it will be smaller than the Witcher 3 according to CD Projekt. It’s also believed to be smaller than GTA V. However, verticality plays a part in the actual size if the play area and Night City includes buildings of considerable size and this also needs to be taken into account. Not all buildings can be entered, but when they can be, they will be large and include important content.

Night City Map
There have been a few map “leaks” that have come via promotional materials but the best indication of map layout is from the subway map that is shown at the start of the first lengthy gameplay video. This map gives a rough idea of zone positioning in relation to each other.
