Bloomberg has been hot on the case when it comes to analysing the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. In their latest article on the subject, they comment further on what went wrong.
Following apologies from CD Projekt this week, Bloomberg has posted their latest piece on the launch of the game. Much of what’s in the article has already been discussed to death but it does include observations from unnamed sources of what was going on. For example, the E3 demo that was shown being fake, development not actually starting until 2016, and developing the game engine alongside the game.
Most of the topics covered in the article have been covered already but I have to say that the view that the game is a mess and unplayable is simply wrong. While the console version was definitely hampered due to less than cutting edge tech inside the consoles themselves, the PC version does not suffer from these issues. Apart from the occasional annoying bug on the PC version, it’s been playing rather well.
Now on my third playthrough and with about 200 hours under my belt with the game, I know where the bugs are and what to watch out for. Despite these smaller bug issues I have been thoroughly enjoying the game thanks to Night City itself. The city is without a doubt the star of the show and there’s a lot of potential to expand on it later when the bugs are sorted and the console versions are fixed.
The more time I have spent in the game, the more I realise how important it is for CD Projekt to lick these issues in a timely fashion. Like No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077 will end up being a slow starter and as issues are resolved, it’s a game that should be tackled by every gamer and will likely end up being a classic.
