Prior to the removal of Cyberpunk 2077 from the Playstation Store, it’s come to light that CD Projekt staff have lashed out at management at the way the launch was handled.
According to a report on Bloomberg, a meeting was held with the board just prior to the decision to remove Cyberpunk 2077 from the Playstation Store yesterday. The report states that staff asked questions about the unrealistic deadlines, the company’s reputation, and overtime/crunch which was widely reported a few months ago. During the meeting, management apologised to staff for the way in which the launch was handled. CDPR has refused to comment directly on the content of the internal meeting.
Based on this report, appears that there could be significant unrest in the camp which is not surprising considering the backlash against the game since it launched. Console gamers have not been impressed with the quality of the game and even PC gamers are having to deal with bugs and finding that features that were touted prior to release have not materialised.
I have a full article appearing on the site where I look back at the launch, what went wrong, and where the community and CDPR go from here. Stay tuned for that shortly.
In the Investors’ Call transcript yesterday the directors said there had been no pressure to release the game but staff are complaining about “the game’s unrealistic deadlines and the relentless overtime” so I think the directors were being less than truthful.
Hopefully they are not making the staff work ridiculous overtime to patch it.
