What we learned about Cyberpunk 2077 from previews and Night City Wire

With everything settling down after Night City Wire and the influx of previews it’s time to take a look at new information garnered from today.

Without any waffle, we’ll list the facts from all the different sources. Here’s what you need to know.

The Information

  • The Badlands is a playable zone inhabited, home of the Nomads and the starting location for the Nomad path.
  • Braindance will allow players to place themselves inside a replay of an event from a character in the game. They can manipulate the camera, replay speed, and investigate a scene. Visual, audio, and thermal imagery can be examined.
  • Character body/style customisation includes:
    • 6 skin tones
    • 35 hairstyles
    • 17 eye types
    • 17 mouth types
    • 8 eyebrow styles
    • 17 eye types
    • 17 jaw types
    • 8 pieces of Cyberware
    • 9 scars
    • 6 tattoos
    • 11 piercings
    • 5 teeth types
    • 8 eye makeup styles
    • 5 lip makeup styles
    • 3 scars
    • 3 nipple types
    • 5 body tattoos
    • 2 body scars
    • 2 penis types (circumcised or not) – with sizing option
    • 1 vagina
    • 5 pubic hair types
  • Nudity during customisation can be disabled or enabled.
  • Character looks can be randomised with a generator.
  • There are 11 separate body parts that are upgradable, some with multiple slots for further enhancement.
  • Players start with five skills (3 points in each) – Body, Intelligence, Reflexes, Technical Ability, and Cool. These max out at 6 points and you have 7 to assign in total.
  • Each of the Life Paths has its own prologue story. The main story starts 6 months after each prologue introduction.
  • The language V uses depends on how he/she was customised.
  • Perks and items are locked to character levels
  • Skills level up the more you use them.
  • Blunt weapons such as clubs are classed as Blades
  • Different vehicles do handle differently.
  • Your vehicles are called in, much like Roach in the Witcher.
  • All life paths start in different locations with each different prologue. Nomad in the Badlands, Street Kid starts at El Coyote Cojo in Heywood, and Corp in the City Center.
  • You can stop crimes and be rewarded by the police.
  • NCPD Scanner Hustles are tasks set by the police you can undertake while moving around the Night City.
  • Players can’t simply car-jack vehicles like GTA V. A skill is required.
  • Melee combat is similar to The Witcher 3. You can strike, block, and dodge.
  • Quickhacking is carried out from a distance (guards, cameras etc). Conventional hacking required plugging into a terminal.
  • The number of pedestrians and traffic will increase during the day and it will be quieter at night on the streets.
  • Fast travel points are unlocked as you travel by them.
  • You don’t have to go through the main quests to finish the game. Side quests will also play a part as they run alongside the main quests.
  • Gigs (fixer jobs) will appear on the mini-map as question-mark icons.
  • Collected junk can be sold at Drop Points and there will be a quick sell junk option.
  • Players will be able to ride the metro.
  • A photo mode is planned.
