CD Projekt interview on respect, tolerance and Cyberpunk 2077

CD ProjektAn interview with CD Projekt’s Adam Kiciński and Adam Badowski tackles the company culture of respect and tolerance. They discuss the company culture and how it transfers into games such as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

The interview which popped up on Rzeczpospolita is a great read if you want to understand CD Projekt’s company culture. It also tackles how their approach to tolerance flows into the games. Here’s a snip

Adam Badowski: Andrzej Sapkowski (author of the novel on the basis of which the game “The Witcher” was created – ed.) In his books dealt with racism quite emphatically. , dwarves, etc., is present. In our games, we show what stigmatization of differences leads to, how social inequalities influence attitudes towards others, what people can be when they do not count on the weaker.

As for “Cyberpunk”, it’s similar. For example, the source material that inspires our game, the textbook by Mike Pondsmith, already in the 80s of the last century approached the issue of gender modification quite liberally. It was much less important than a sense of self, own style – and therefore also more fluid. I honestly hope that – as we did with “The Witcher”

– “Cyberpunk 2077” will surprise everyone with how many brave, wise and adult stories can be told in a video game. But this is a topic I will come back to after the November premiere when I can say more.
