If you followed the development of Cyberpunk 2077 closely, you’ll be aware that multiplayer was planned only to be axed. It seems that the idea is still in the back of the development team at CD Projekt for Cyberpunk 2.
Currently called Project Orion, Cyberpunk 2 is still in a conceptual phase of development. In an interview with Reuters, CEO Adam Badowski mentioned the possibility of multiplayer being added to the sequel but would not reveal any more at this moment in time.
With all kinds of production problems plaguing Cyberpunk 2077, the removal of multiplayer was likely a great move. That said, the game still had all kinds of problems at launch and lessons will have been learned from it’s development..
By the time Phantom Liberty launched, the game was in a great place and the gunplay was spot-on. I can see multiplayer working well if it’s done right and with game modes that suit the setting.
It’s going to be a long wait until we get some concrete details of the sequel so we’ll just have to be patient. As Badowski says, “We believe that in the future we’ll avoid a premiere like the one we faced with Cyberpunk 2077”.
